Everything Bagel Seasoning Crusted Tuna Melt

I am a complete sucker for a tuna melt sandwich. I always keep canned tuna on hand for this reason alone. It's also great for when you're stuck in quarantine and need to use up all the canned tuna you bought months ago! Am I right or am I right?!

Okay.. but we're getting a little fancy over here with this one. This isn't just your normal tuna melt.. we are adding some everything bagel seasoning to give it a seasoned crust on the outside of your bread. We lather the outside with butter and press in everything bagel seasoning to create a golden brown and fragrant crust to make each bite more and more delicious. Yup. I went there. Make sure you use that thick cut sourdough bread, not the flimsy white sliced sandwich bread. It will hold up way better when you sear it.. and taste way better.

You can find everything bagel seasoning at almost every grocery store now and definitely online if it's sold out in stores. Or, make your own with sesame seeds, poppy seeds, dried onion and dried garlic. For the tuna, it's canned tuna with celery, onion, pickles, mustard, mayo, lots of fresh dill, salt and pepper. Easy! Add some sliced tomato, peppers, or other veggies to make things interesting. But, I'm all about sticking to the classic.. as in, what my mom used to make for me. That everything seasoned bread, though.. that's all me and my love for making things a liiiittle extra!

Alriiiight, here it is friends.. HAVE AT IT! Don't forget to tag me when you make it.

Everything Bagel Seasoning Crusted Tuna Melt

4 slices sourdough bread

1-2 canned tuna

1 celery stalk, diced

1 shallot or 1/2 small red onion, diced

a couple pickles, diced

fresh dill, to taste

2 tablespoons mayonnaise

1 tablespoon dijon mustard

1 small lemon, zest and juice

salt and pepper, to taste

handful of or sliced cheese, your choice!

optional: sliced tomato

3 tablespoons butter, room temperature

2-3 tablespoon everything bagel seasoning

1-2 tablespoon oil, for cooking

1. To make the tuna mixture, take the canned tuna and discard any juices in the can. Take the tuna meat, add it to the bowl. Dice and add in your celery, shallot, pickles and a hand full of chopped fresh dill.

2. Add mayonnaise, mustard, lemon zest and juice. Mix and taste. Season with salt and pepper. Set aside.

3. Brush the outside of each slice of bread with butter. Sprinkle everything bagel seasoning over the buttered side of the bread, pressing gently to make sure it sticks.

4. Assemble your tuna melt by layering cheese, a scoop of the tuna mixture, if using, sliced tomato and a sprinkle of more cheese onto the inside of 2 slices of bread. Finish with the remaining 2 slices of bread with the buttered-side up.

5. Heat 1-2 tablespoons oil on a large skillet over medium-high heat. Place sandwiches into the pan and cook until golden brown on each side, about 4-5 minutes each side. Enjoy!
